Justin Bieber has a lot of questions lately: "Where Are Ü Now?" "What Do You Mean?" "Who is Shawn Mendes?"

The Biebs is officially a new candidate in the running for the prestigious title of Shade Queen 2015, all thanks to a recent interview with 95.5 PLJ.

Radio host Ralphie Aversa was nostalgically recalling his first interview with Justin Bieber way, way back in 2009 at a mall in Scranton, when he asked Bieber if he had any advice for fellow up-and-comers — you know, like the massively successful 17-year-old Vine star-turned-superstar, Shawn Mendes.

Blink. Blink. Puzzled stare.

"Who's Shawn Mendes?" the singer asks over his shoulder to management off-camera with a faint smile, inserting a plastic soda cap into his mouth.

"Oh! He's on Island. He's from southern Ontario. He's 17 years old. He's got a song called 'Stitches' that's, like, doing okay at pop radio," the host stutters, weirdly downplaying the success of the Billboard Hot 100 Top 20 hit. (The album from which it was released, Handwritten, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200.)

"Nice. Nice. Good for him," Bieber replies, further chewing on the cap. Nope. No one coming to mind.

"Oh! Oh wow, so you don't even..." the host says, still fumbling. "I thought for sure you might because he's also from southern Ontario."

"No. No, I don't know him. But I will check him out. For sure." Mmhmm. Well then!

It's hard to say whether Bieber's cool dismissal of the idea of a Shawn Mendes (who?) was intentional or simply his natural 2kewl4school delivery, although considering Biebs is BFFs with equally mega-popular Viners like Matthew Espinosa and King Bach, it's kind of hard to beliebe that Shawn hasn't come up at least once even casually in conversation.

But, who knows? Do you know? What do you mean? I don't know. But I will check him out. For sure.
