Adam Levine knows he’s been called a “d—–bag” before. He just doesn’t seem to care.

In a candid interview with GQ, the Maroon 5 frontman gets honest about his public image, and digs into whether he actually is a d—–bag or not.

“Would it be really easy to assume that I was a d—–bag?” he says in the interview. “Definitely. One hundred percent. But that doesn’t mean that I am.” He then later adds, “Or maybe I am, I don’t know.”

“I’m confident,” he later admits. “Some people don’t like confidence. They resent confidence.” But does he think he’s a likable person?  He admits, “I’m not the easiest person to love right off the bat, you know. If I knew everyone in the world, they would love me. Every single last f—–g one of them.”

In regards to the perception and rumors that’s hooked up with several Hollywood celebrities, including Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton, Levine defends himself. “All of a sudden, I had money in my bank account. I hadn’t had a break in a long time. And I went a little f—–g nuts. You know? I deserved to go a little bit nuts. And I had the time of my life.”

But Levine does see himself turning the volume down a bit. “People change; people grow up, get more self-aware and in tune with all this s—.”

As for his fiancee, Victoria’s Secret model Behati Prinsloo? Levine wants people to know that he doesn’t love her just because she’s a model. “I don’t date what the person does,” he says. “I date the f—–g person. You know what I mean?
