The last time Britney Spears and a palette crossed paths, the pop princess wound up passed out in a pool of fluorescent paint (hey there, “Hold It Against Me“!). Thankfully, Brit’s second foray into the art world won’t require as much cleanup.

Today, as part of a new exhibit called “Eye Pop: The Celebrity Gaze,” Washington D.C.’s National Portrait Gallery is inviting museum-goers to feast their eyes on pieces that honor writers, actors and pop stars, among other artists that have attracted media attention over the years. To answer your next logical question: Yes, that includes illustrations of acts like Britney and Katy Perry (you can check out Katy-as-fine-cupcake art here), and yes, each image is amazing. KICK ROCKS, THE LOUVRE.

Curator Brandon Fortune told the Washington Post that “Eye Pop” aims to capture its subjects in completely sincere, candid moments in an age when the artist themselves are typically dictating the terms of their image output.

“This exhibit isn’t just like picking up People magazine,” she said. “It’s more about challenging yourself to learn more about the contemporary world.”

“Do we really know Katy Perry?” she later added. “I don’t think we do…Maybe after seeing this exhibit, you’ll have new insight into your selfies.”

“Eye Pop” is open until July 10, 2016.
