Celebrities Remember Michael Jackson’s Passing 5 Years Ago
by Thomas Chau | PopCrushIt was five years ago today that the world mourned the passing of Michael Jackson on June 25, 2009.
The world stood still watching the television and social media outlets as word got out that Jackson had been rushed to a Los Angeles hospital after he was found not breathing in his home. He was later pronounced dead later that afternoon, prompting an investigation into the circumstances. It was later revealed that Jackson had been taking a deadly mixture of drugs by his personal physician, which contributed directly to his heart failure. Dr. Conrad Murray was later arrested and sentenced to four years in prison for involuntary manslaughter.
While Jackson’s personal life was marred by scandalous controversy and tabloid headlines, his music was unquestionably everlasting. The 1982 album ‘Thriller’ is, to this date, still the best selling album of all-time. He broke racial barriers as the first prominent African American to have his music video featured prominently on MTV in the ’80s, and perfected the craft of the music video. His music and signature dance moves has often been cited as influences for many of today’s young pop and R&B stars.
His continuing influence can be seen today, as many artists tweeted their rememberances for the one they call the King of Pop.
