Charli XCX Reveals New Album Is Inspired By Paris Hilton, ‘Luxe Lifestyle’by Erica Russell | PopCrush
In a recent interview with the U.K.’s Mirror, the raven-haired pop princess discusses how the iconic American heiress has provided prime pop inspiration for her forthcoming third studio album.
“It’s definitely the most electronic pop sound I’ve done. I’ve been really inspired by Paris Hilton, small dogs and a glitter, luxe lifestyle,” Charli explains during the brief but candid chat, adding excitedly, “I’ve never met Paris before, but we were both at the amFAR Gala during the Cannes Film Festival this year. I was performing and I saw her singing along to my song and I freaked out.”
Of course, it’s not just Paris’ lifestyle and pop culture impact that has inspired Charli—it’s her music, too. Referring to the heiress’ terribly underrated self-titled debut album Paris, Charli says, “I’m such a fan and one of my favorite songs ever is ‘Stars Are Blind’—it’s pop genius.”
Charli is currently working on new music for her next album—over the summer, she cancelled the second leg of her Charli & Jack Do America Tour alongside Bleachers in order to focus on writing and recording—and has described the new SOPHIE-produced tunes as “the most pop thing, and the most electronic thing I’ve done” in a chat with i-D magazine. However, that hasn’t stopped the singer-songwriter from writing for other artists in the interim.
The British pop artist, who famously co-penned No. 1 mega-hit singles for Icona Pop and Iggy Azalea (“I Love It” and “Fancy,” respectively), revealed that while working on her own new material, she’s also been furiously writing for none other than… Rihanna!
“I’m a really big Rihanna fan and I think she’s such an incredible artist. She’s my favorite pop girl,” Charli gushes in the interview. “She’s the real deal. I’ve actually been to a couple of writing sessions for Rihanna’s new record. It was really fun to put together a couple of tracks!”
Now, the only thing that would make hearing all of this even sweeter is if Charli, Rihanna, and Paris all teamed up for a collaboration banger. I mean, okay, it wont happen—but a girl can dream, can’t she?
