Trevor Noah Vows to Continue The War on BS as New ‘Daily Show’ Host

by | PopCrush

Before assuming the role of brand new Daily Show host—a privilege that just kicked into effect last night (September 28)—Trevor Noah vowed to make some big changes to the Comedy Central program’s format. One thing he’ll leave untouched, though? A commitment to warring against bulls—, just as his forefather, Jon Stewart, had always done.

“To you, the Daily Show viewer, both new and old, at home, or on your phone, thank you for joining us as we continue the war on buls—,” Noah welcomes his audience in the clip above. AND WHAT A WELCOME IT IS.

Noah moves on to acknowledge that it’s a little strange for longtime fans to be without Jon, but says he has every intention of making his mentor proud.

“Thank you, Jon,” he begins. “Thank you for believing in me. I’m not quite sure what you saw in me, but I’ll work hard every day to find it, and I’ll make you not look like the crazy old dude who left his inheritance to some random kid from Africa.”

And, to ensure he kicks things off with a clean slate, the new host recognizes a couple of elephants in the room.

“I know that many people have questions. For example: ‘Why isn’t a woman hosting the show?'” Noah says. “It turns out that Comedy Central did ask women to host, and the women they asked turned the job down because they all had better things to do and clearly knew something that I didn’t.”

“Also: ‘Why didn’t they get an American to host?'” he continues. “And again, Comedy Central tried, and those people also declined. And so once more, a job Americans rejected is now being done by an immigrant.”

Just before hanging up his Daily Show hat for good in August, Jon Stewart pleaded with his audience to remain skeptical of authority figures, and to continue to speak out against anything that doesn’t add up.

“So I say to you tonight, friends, the best defense against bulls— is vigilance,” he declared. “So if you smell something, say something.”
