Dissatisfied with his current status as just a famous musician, Ed Sheeran seems to be weighing his options in the entertainment world and is now headed to the small screen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ed landed a recurring role on Kurt Sutter’s upcoming drama The Bastard Executioner as Sir Cormac, who the site describes as, “an ambitious and deadly protege of a high-ranking church elder.”

The show, set to air on FX, is about a 14th-century warrior who, after being visited by a divine messenger, exchanges his sword for the life of a journeyman executioner. Those with intense hemophobia will probably do best to stay far away from it, as the show promises to get bloody.

Show creator Sutter, whose credits include work on The Shield and Sons of Anarchy, commented on the television show, saying, “I love history. I love theology. I love blood. It’s been very satisfying weaving fact and fiction to create a new mythology that combines all these elements. And with this extraordinary cast — Stephen Moyer, Katey Sagal and newcomer Lee Jones — this world explodes on screen. I love working with FX and Fox21TVS. They’ve been my family for 15 years. They not only tolerate me, they embrace my extremely disturbing storytelling sensibilities.”

The Bastard Executioner is set to debut in October. But for those of you who want the best of both worlds and wish to see Sheeran combine his music and television careers, you’re in luck! A one-hour special comprised of footage from his recent three-night stint at Wembley Stadium will air next month on NBC.
