Disney Will Bring Terrifying ‘Fantasia’ Segment To Life In New Film

If a cartoon rendering of demon creatures and underworld resurrections wasn’t enough to make you soil your childhood self, Disney’s hoping its upcoming, live-action Fantasia reboot will do the trick.

On the heels of news that Reese Witherspoon will play Tinker Bell in a flesh-and-blood film called Tink, The Hollywood Reporter wrote yesterday (June 3) that Disney plans to adapt the classic film’s “Night on Bald Mountain” segment for a real-life production.

“Bald Mountain” (featured above) tells the story of a demon monster that raises souls from the dead and proceeds to dance and frolic with the likes of fiery spirits, skeleton steeds and each and every conceivable thing that has gone bump in the night. As is the case with any good night out, though, the souls are forced to cower and recede back into the shadows once the sun rises, and the music dies out.

The whole of Fantasia was originally set to classical music scores, but there’s no word yet on whether the trend of silent beings will spill over into the project, or if the new adaptation will include dialogue. We can only imagine how the beast would venture to explain this particular rave…

Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, who will write the script for the picture, have previously penned the upcoming Dracula Untold starring Luke Evans, The Last Witch Hunter, featuring Vin Diesel and Gods of Egypt, fronted by Gerard Butler.

Excited to see “Night on Bald Mountain” in the flesh?
