J.K. Rowling has affected a lot of lives over the years with her inspirational words, but her recent letter to a courageous fan might be her best work yet.
Cassidy Stay is a huge ‘Harry Potter’ fan dealing with an unthinkable tragedy. The 15-year-old is the sole survivor of a shooting that took the lives of her mom, dad, her two sisters and her two brothers. Her life was nearly lost as well, but the bullet aimed at her grazed her skull and hit one of her fingers, the Telegraph reported.
At a memorial event held for the Texas native’s family, she quoted Albus Dumbledore from the movie adaptation of ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.’ “Happiness can be found even in the darkest times if one only remembers to turn on the light,” she said in her touching speech.
Cassidy’s choice of words sparked a movement to bring the situation to J.K. Rowling’s attention. The Scottish author heard loud and clear, thanks to the power of the internet.
In a stunning act of kindness, Rowling sent the teen a handwritten, purple-inked note written as Dumbledore, full of comforting and heartwarming words. She also gifted a wand, an acceptance letter to Hogwarts and a signed copy of ‘Prisoner of Azkaban.’
Cassidy’s loss is unfathomable, but we’re sure Dumbledore’s words are a bright source of light during such a hard time.
