Watch Jay Z’s Star-Studded ‘Glory’ Rehearsal Video

Released Thursday (April 16) as a TIDAL exclusive, Jay Z‘s intimate “Glory” video can now be viewed by those of us without a subscription to his premium music streaming service.

Recorded during the warmup for his 2012 charity concert at Carnegie Hall, the clip features the hip-hop mogul running through the track live with a full-piece orchestra. Alicia Keys, Nas and Questlove all make cameos. Conspicuously missing from the footage, however, is the person “Glory” is all about: Jay Z’s daughter with Beyoncé, Blue Ivy.

Jay Z originally released “Glory,” which he produced with the Neptunes, on January 9, 2012, two days after Blue Ivy was born. Lyrically, the song references the couples’ struggle to conceive — Beyonce confessed she suffered a miscarriage in her first pregnancy — but ultimately, it is an ode to the joy and well, glory, of becoming a father for the first time. Blue’s heartbeat can even be heard opening the track. Jay raps, “The most amazing feeling I feel / Words can’t describe what I’m feeling, for real / Baby I’ll paint the sky blue / My greatest creation was you.”

Last month, the Carters celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary in Hawaii — and with the launch of TIDAL. The much publicized new platform was announced in a live-stream in which Nicki Minaj, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Jack White, Daft Punk, Usher and more A-list musicians signed on as co-owners. Rihanna, Madonna, Beyoncé and more artists have already released new music and media through the service.
