Jeremy Renner Calls Black Widow a Slut, Chris Evans Laughs Uproariously [VIDEO]

Another day, another disappointment. Jeremy Renner called Avengers character Black Widow a slut during a recent interview, lending credence to the adage: Never meet your heroes. Also, never watch their interviews.

During a promotional tour for the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron movie, Renner and Chris Evans were asked a pretty innocuous question regarding who Black Widow ultimately winds up with, romantically. When the interviewer asks the actors to comment on some fans’ desires to see Black Widow with either (or both) of their characters, Renner deadpans, “She’s a slut.” Like a frat boy watching Tosh.0 do standup, Chris Evans thinks this is the funniest thing in the entire world. Shortly after he comes up for air, for Renner’s statement is so funny he finds it difficult to breathe, Evans says, “I was gonna say something along that line. She’s a complete whore.” The two continue to laugh, because that is some A+ comedy.

Once the media caught wind of their comments and shamed them on the web, Evans released a statement recognizing the immaturity of their collective responses. He said (quote via TIME), “Yesterday we were asked about the rumors that Black Widow wanted to be in a relationship with both Hawkeye and Captain America. We answered in a very juvenile and offensive way that rightfully angered some fans. I regret it and sincerely apologize.”

Renner offered the following apology (via USA Today), “I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone. It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour.”

But the controversy doesn’t end there. According to BuzzFeed, there’s a rape joke in the Avengers film. When the avengers are trying to lift Thor’s hammer, Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.) says that, as ruler of Asgard, “I will be re-instituting prima nocta.” The site claims that “prima nocta” is the “historical right of a lord to insist on sex with any bride under his rule on her wedding night.” Yikes. You can check out that clip on YouTube.

The trailer sees the line changed to “I will be fair but firmly cruel,” which is a way less stupid line, and the one we hope they ultimately went with.
