Joan Rivers’ Doctor Reportedly Took Selfie During Surgeryby Maggie Malach | PopCrush
Sad news continues to surface following the tragic death of Joan Rivers. The latest reports claim that the comedian’s doctor took a selfie during her throat surgery, before she went into the cardiac arrest that allegedly lead to her death.
According to CNN, a source close to Rivers’ death investigation said her cardiac arrest began as her personal doctor began a biopsy on her vocal chords. However, the same doctor — who remains unidentified — also reportedly took a selfie of himself earlier in the surgery.
That doctor, who the insider says was Rivers’ personal ear-nose-throat physician, was allegedly not authorized to practice medicine at Manhattan’s Yorkville Endoscopy clinic, where the comedian underwent throat surgery.
“Even though you are a licensed physician, you still should have, if you will, the checks and balances to get your approval to practice in that particular place,” Dr. Arthur Caplan, a medical ethicist at New York University’s Langone Medical Center, told CNN.
While the ear-nose-and-throat physician’s identity and job status remain unknown, Page Six reports that Dr. Lawrence Cohen, the gastroenterologist who was actually scheduled to perform the surgery, has since resigned from his position at the hospital.
