Nuns Battling Katy Perry Are Relentless, Judge to Settle Property Disputeby Ali Szubiak | PopCrush
According to Billboard, things are riling up between the nuns and the Catholic archbishop of Los Angeles, both of whom want to sell the convent property to different parties. The Sisters of the Most Holy and Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary have reportedly already promised the property to local entrepreneur Dana Hollister, who plans on turning the estate into a boutique hotel, complete with a restaurant and bar space. Meanwhile, the archbishop told Katy she could have it after the pop star offered them $14.5 million.
Lawyers for Archbishop Jose H. Gomez and the nuns have accused each other of attempting to sell the property without proper legal permission. A judge is set to clear things up between the two and find out whether Hollister, who’s already given the sisters a down payment of $100,000 and promises to pay $9.9 million more at a later date, should be temporarily blocked from entering the property, as she’s already begun to clean it up in preparation for renovations.
Apparently, the nuns believe they possess rightful ownership of the property and should be allowed to sell it after a conversation they had with the archbishop. As part of the court filings they claimed: “Exasperated, the archbishop threw his arms above his head and told the sisters…they could sell the (convent). He said, `whatever you want to do I’ll do, but see me first.'”
The sisters initially said they Googled Katy when she first expressed interest in the property and weren’t thrilled with what they found. Sister Rita Callanan said, “Well, I found Katy Perry, and I found her videos and…if it’s all right to say, I wasn’t happy with any of it.”
And so the battle continues.
