Kelly Clarkson on Fat Shaming: ‘We Are Who We Are’by Sarah Ravits | PopCrush
“I think what hurts my feelings is that I’ll have a meet-and-greet after the show and a girl who’s bigger than me will be in the meet-and-greet and be like, ‘Wow, if they think you’re big, I must be so fat to them,’” Clarkson revealed. “We just are who we are. You are who you are,” she said, to an applauding audience. “Whatever size you are — it doesn’t mean you’re going to be like that forever.”
The 32-year-old Grammy winner encouraged her fans to accept themselves regardless of what shape they’re in.
“Sometimes we’re more fit,” she said. “Like, especially me. I’m such a creative person that I yo-yo. Sometimes I’m more fit and I get into kickboxing hardcore. And then sometimes I don’t and I’m like, ‘I’d rather have wine’.”
The singer was in good spirits overall, and spoke about recording her chart-topping new album Piece by Piece while pregnant with her darling baby girl River. Kelly previously told PopCrush that her difficult pregnancy inspired her edgy new hairstyle.
“‘I need something different, I need something to make me feel less like a mom’,” the singer recalled feeling at the time. “Because I just felt like I was super locked up. I was just so sick all the time, I wasn’t feeling good.”
