Lana Del Rey Talks James Franco Book + ‘High By The Beach’by Ali Szubiak | PopCrush
In an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Beats (which you can listen to over on Apple Music), Lana opened up about the single’s initial formation, how the track’s beat ultimately elevated it to its current incarnation and she even talked about that book James Franco wrote about her.
Speaking about “High By The Beach” Lana said, “It started with the chorus. I was driving by the beach a lot and this was probably one of the last ones on the record. I like that all of the chorus, melodies, all the harmonies, kind of had an Andrews Sisters vibe — it was like a six-part harmony. Even with the harmonies it almost sounded monotone, so it had this weird drone to it. But then with the beat it kind of had like a trap influence.”
And if you’re wondering how she feels about that book James Franco wrote, called Flip-Side: Real and Imaginary Conversations with Lana Del Rey — well, Lana she says she’s not so sure it’ll be released: “I was surprised to see there was a book. I guess I would say… Last year we went out to Coney Island, and we spent an hour together just talking like an informal interview and we became friends…And I knew he wanted to write a book and we talked about the take he was gonna take on it. I had said, ‘You know, I’m not sure.’ He said, ‘Well, what if I write a fictional book of conversations between us that shed some light on both of our characters?’ And I said, ‘Why don’t we wait on it?'”
Someone might want to tell her that the book is currently slated for release on March 15, 2016.
Honeymoon is set to be out sometime in September 2015, but in the meantime you can listen to “High By The Beach” on repeat.
