Little Mix and Choir Cover Whitney Houston and Jason Derulo

by | PopCrush

The Church of Little Mix is officially in session, and our missals are wide open to Hymn No. 1.

The girl group, whose third album, Get Weird, is on the way, took on a pair of pop mega-hits—one new, one a few years old—for BBC’s Radio 1 this morning. The result was nothing short of black magic.

In the clip above, Perrie, Leigh-Anne, Jade and Jesy start a small-scale set with only a piano as accompaniment, but the intro gives way to a jazzy beat, full-blown choral production and the likes of Jason Derulo‘s “Want You to Want me.” It’s lively, uplifting and, within a few seconds, backed by a straight-up organ effect. Let us pray!

And, when the communion’s been served and the tabernacle closed, LM switches gears and selects a closing psalm from yesteryear to see their disciples out: Whitney Houston‘s 1987 hit “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.” In the event the sermon eluded anyone in earshot, this number provides a buzz that’ll last until after-mass coffee and doughnut holes are served in the reception area. In their name, we pray…

If the performance puts a smile on your face, you can rest assured the good vibes will keep coming with the band’s forthcoming work. “…there’s a bit of ‘60s-era going on in the album,” Jesy recently told Chart Show TV. “It’s all different, but it is a very pop album, very happy, very uplifting album.”

Check out the LM cover, and tell us if you’re a believer!
