Maroon 5’s ‘Animals’ Video Slammed by Sexual Assault Groupby Michelle McGahan | PopCrush
RAINN (Rape, Abuse, Incest National Network) has released a statement about the music video, which features Adam Levine as an obsessed stalker hunting down his real-life wife, Behati Prinsloo.
“Maroon 5’s video for ‘Animals’ is a dangerous depiction of a stalker’s fantasy — and no one should ever confuse the criminal act of stalking with romance,” the group said in a statement (quote via Yahoo Music).
“The trivialization of these serious crimes, like stalking, should have no place in the entertainment industry,” the organization continued. “Survivors everywhere can get help 24/7 through the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1.800.656.HOPE and online.rainn.org.”
The eyebrow-raising video (which contains lyrics such as “I’ll be preying on you tonight, hunt you down, eat you alive”) also features graphic images of a naked Levine and Prinsloo kissing, covered in blood.
