Matthew Koma Is So Effing Romantic on His Bubbly New Single
by Samantha Vincenty | PopCrushIf you don’t already love Matthew Koma, you might love his work: He co-wrote and sang on for Zedd‘s “Spectrum” and co-wrote the EDM producer’s monster hit “Clarity.” Or maybe you’ve heard Kelly Clarkson‘s “Someone” from Piece By Piece — he wrote that too. He’s also lent his vocals to songs by Giorgio Moroder, Tiesto, Hardwell and more. Today (August 7), Koma returns with his own sun-drenched (and saxophone-drenched) new single, “So F—cking Romantic.”
With over-the-top lyrics about sailing, endless champagne and chocolate, Koma paints himself as Mr. Romance to a self-consciously ridiculous degree: “Cash raining on us
/ Designer clouds, and beds white as dust.” So f—cking romantic!
The production flirts with tropical house — arguably 2015’s biggest dance music trend — and an ’80s-evoking sax shamelessly wails all over the entire thing. Koma seems to be half-joking about his offer to “sail the oceans / and swim in the Atlantic,” but it’s easy to imagine the song soundtracking a cruise (and possibly a makeout session afterward).
