There were rumors. There were hints. But of course, no one was really sure whether or not Miley Cyrus would actually drop her highly-anticipated, “experimental” new album on Sunday night during her stint as host of the MTV Video Music Awards, let alone close the show with a surprise performance. But then, just seconds before the show cut to an encore showing on MTV, she did it—she dropped the whole damn thing and announced it live. Check it out!

Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz is the new independent musical project from pop’s residential wild child in collaboration with the Flaming Lips, and it’s completely free for fans to download on the artist’s web site here. Oh, and it also has 23 tracks. Yes, you read that correctly—Miley’s new album is comprised of 23 songs.

The Ariel Pink-assisted track “Tiger Dreams” is there, as are previously rumored tracks “Fweaky” and “Tangerine,” as previewed a few weeks ago on Instagram. There’s also “Dooo It!”, the glitchy, kinda weird hip-hop mash-up jam that the “Wrecking Ball” singer actually debuted during her VMA performance last night, along with her colorful back-up dancer troupe of drag queens.

Upon a very brief first listen—and this is by no means a review—the record definitely lives up to the “experimental,” “psychedelic” sound that was promised, with song styles running the gauntlet from psych-rock to hip-hop to stoner-country to trip-hop, with some tracks sounding like raw demos and a few others sounding like they could actually sit right at home on a Lana Del Rey record in an alternate universe. Oh, and there are tons and tons of weed references, naturally.

You can take a listen to the whole thing here. Just give yourself a while to digest it properly.
