UPDATE: Listen to a preview of “Hands Of Love” in the trailer below via TIME.
Due out in theaters on October 2, Freeheld is a film that will chronicle the relationship of real-life New Jersey gay couple Laurel Hester and Stacie Andree, who were one of the first couples to fight for pension benefits for same-sex domestic partnerships after Laurel was tragically diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. The film stars actresses Julianne Moore and Ellen Page as Laurel and Stacie respectively, and is based off the Oscar-winning 2007 documentary of the same name.
And recently, the film received a little extra star power by way of pop star and LGBT rights advocate Miley Cyrus, who over the weekend announced on Instagram that she would be lending her voice to an “epic” song for the film, a song that was produced by none other than famed writer/producer-to-the-stars Linda Perry.
“Proud to be apart of Freeheld [movie],” Miley shared on her Instagram account, along with a re-posted photo of the cast originally shared by Ellen Page. “Singing a tune written by the bad-ass [Linda Perry]… Thank you to this incredible cast for giving a face to this incredible story and shining light on the brutal dark truth of love versus the law!”
Of course, Freeheld isn’t the first time Miley has provided music for a film. In 2008, the artist sung a track with John Travolta for the animated Disney film Bolt, and in 2009 she (obviously) provided music for Hannah Montana: The Movie, notably singing the film’s lead single “The Climb.” In 2010, Cyrus also provided tunes for the Nicholas Sparks flick, The Last Song.
Luckily, we wont have too wait too long to hear Miley’s Freeheld contribution.
