Is Nick Jonas Calling Selena Gomez in New Song ‘Area Code’?
by Thomas Chau | PopCrushIs Nick Jonas referencing his ex, Selena Gomez, in his new song, “Area Code”?
Billboard reports that Jonas surprised fans on Saturday, Sept. 5, when he released a song-in-progress titled “Area Code” on SoundCloud. The release of the song coincided with Jonas’ appearance at the Made in America Festival on Saturday night.
“I need someone to put a verse on this…” wrote Jonas on his SoundCloud account.
The electric-fused song includes lyrics that seemingly reference a quick drive-by “booty call.” Jonas sings in the song, “I’m in your area code / I hit you up / Are you alone? / So many places this could go / Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah / I’m f—ed up, you don’t even know / Baby it’s better that you don’t / I’m guessing now my cover’s blown.”
Jonas and Gomez previously dated in 2010 but rumors of a reignited romance surfaced after the two were spotted getting close to one another at a 2015 MTV Music Video Awards afterparty.
The most telling lyrics, however, are when Jonas sings “You say I never been good for you / You can’t deny I gave it good to you.”
Is this a reference to Gomez’s new single, “Good For You”?
Jonas has stayed quiet on social media about any connections to his ex, but Billboard notes that Jonas himself favorited two fan tweets on Twitter that link Gomez to the song.
