Paula Abdul Recreates ‘Opposites Attract’ Video With James Corden

by | PopCrush

To today’s generation, Paula Abdul might just be that eager American Idol judge who helped Kelly Clarkson get onto the map, but in the late ’80s and early ’90s, she was so much more: a Grammy-winner, a sought-after choreographer and someone who exacted dance steps with a cartoon cat.

Yup, in 1989, Abdul and the technicolor MC Skat Kat joined forces for the “Opposites Attract” video, which eventually won the singer a Grammy for Best Short Form Video, and on last night’s Late Late Show, host James Corden helped her to recreate a real-life adaption of the animation…26 years later.

In the clip from last night’s episode (July 22) above, Corden, who’s dressed in a head-to-toe feline getup, kicks off the segment with a lip sync of Skat Kat’s famous rap in front of a set designed to look like dark city streets. Soon, he’s joined by Paula, who’s dressed in a stark white jumpsuit, and—hand-in-hand—the unlikely duo gives the audience a show it’ll likely never forget amid a boombox, series of trashcans and a vertical bed featuring an ascending sheet. IS THIS HEAVEN?!

(Side note: Sure, we would have loved to see Abdul rip a cigarette out of Corden’s mouth and affect a look of disgust, but beyond that, no complaints.)
