Selena Hologram Will Tour and Release New Musicby Michelle McGahan | PopCrush
Twenty years after her murder, the late Selena Quintanilla-Perez will be made into a hologram.
The singer’s family and the company Acrovirt are working closely together to create “a walking, talking, singing, and dancing, digital embodiment of iconic singer, Selena” — a project they call “Selena the One.”
“Selena the One will release new songs and videos, will collaborate with current hit artists, and aims to go on tour in 2018,” the official website continues in their statement, revealing that they will also launch an Indiegogo campaign on April 16 to raise funds for the effort. Their goal is $500,000.
“Selena is a Latin American icon who was taken before her time. Acrovirt and the Quintanilla family are excited to announce that Selena will continue to share her creative talents with the world in a new innovative way,” the co-founder of the company told the site.
Selena’s family also made headlines this week after they initiated a lawsuit against UMG Recordings, claiming that the company “grossly underpaid” royalties to her estate, CBS News reports.
Selena was in a hotel parking lot on March 31, 1995, when she was shot to death by the president of her fan club. The young singer — who was just 23 years old at the time of her tragic death — has been mourned by millions all over the world in the 20 years since her murder.
Her legacy has lived on through her music, countless memorials and tributes, a movie based on her life that starred Jennifer Lopez, and even Selena Gomez, who was named after the Tejano singer. And now, it looks like she will live on once again through a hologram.
