Seth Meyers to Host 2014 Emmys!by Amy Sciarretto | PopCrush
Congrats to Seth Meyers. The new host of ‘Late Night’ has been tapped to host the 2014 Emmys aka the 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards in August.
The Emmys, usually held in September, will actually air on NBC on Aug. 25. That’s a Monday.
Variety confirmed the news that Meyers, who left his post as a head writer and beloved anchor of ‘Weekend Update’ on ‘Saturday Night Live’ in February to take over for Jimmy Fallon, who in turn took ‘The Tonight Show’ reigns from Jay Leno, got the Emmys gig. Obviously, NBC is keeping the hosting berth all in the network family, as they have done in the past.
Hosting the Emmys should help to provide a ratings boost and generate even more interest in Meyers’ own late night show.
“Seth’s expertise and ease in front of a live audience during his time at ‘SNL,’ as well as his comedic brilliance both as a writer and in front of the camera on ‘SNL’ and ‘Late Night,’ makes him the perfect choice to host the Emmys,” an NBC exec told Variety.
The aforementioned Fallon has hosted the Emmys in the past, but his ‘Tonight Show’ has been solid in the ratings so he doesn’t need a helper gig such as this. It’s also fair to give Meyers a shake as host of a high profile prize-giving ceremony, too.
This is not the first time Meyer has hosted an awards show. He hosted the decidedly less pressurized, yet super fun, ESPN Espy Awards in 2010 and 2011.
Also, in case you are curious, the Emmys are in August this year, as opposed to their usual and familiar Sunday September slot, due to NBC’s commitments to its Sunday Night Football franchise.
