Allow us to present “you never really know what’s going on with people” example #1,890,002: Stephanie Pratt, best known for her role on MTV’s defunct reality-soap The Hills, says she battled an addiction to crystal meth.

In Pratt’s new memoir, Made In Reality: From the Hills of L.A. to London’s Made in Chelsea, she says she was just “14 or 15″ when she first smoked methamphetamine. She confessed (quotes via Page Six), “I was on the extreme level and addiction developed instantly. [I smoked] probably four times before school, then at snack … probably 12 or 13 times a day.”

In addition to her school-day meth snacks, Pratt says she was indeed still smoking it when she joined the cast of The Hills.

“I would wake up, and pop out of bed because I was so excited to take my meth,” she writes. “I’d go into my bathroom and smoke, immediately, then brush my teeth, put on my makeup and get dressed. Then I would get in my car; I would be at a red light and during that pause I would bend down and smoke it in the driver’s seat at the wheel.”

Pratt, who has admitted to struggles with substance abuse in the past, says in the book that she also used OxyContin, cocaine and hard liquor heavily — and it landed her in the hospital. “I did some coke, and chased it all down with whiskey. I woke up, and I was in UCLA Medical Center.”

Pratt, who’s also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother and Made in Chelsea, also discusses her eating disorder and how The Hills affected her friendship with Brody Jenner. While the crystal meth revelation may come as a surprise to her fans, it’s a good reminder that drug addiction does not discriminate, and even the media-mythologized celebrity 1% isn’t immune.
