Tracy Morgan’s Emmys Homecoming: ‘I’m Here, Standing On My Own Two Feet’by Matthew Scott Donnelly | PopCrush
Tracy Morgan made his triumphant return to the awards show circuit last night (September 20), 15 months after a devastating car crash left him with potentially permanent injuries.
Morgan, who presented the Emmy award for Outstanding Drama Series to Game of Thrones, walked onto the stage without the help of a cane or wheelchair, and was quick to acknowledge the progress he’s made, and the support he’s received.
“I’m here, standing on my own two feet,” he said to uproarious applause from his peers, including 30 Rock boss Tina Fey. “God bless all you for your love, prayers and positive thoughts over the past 15 months.”
“Thank you so much, I miss you guys so much,” he added.
In June 2014, a limo bus in which Morgan was a passenger was mangled in a six-car pileup in New Jersey. Morgan was critically injured and left in a coma for more than a week. Early reports said it was possible the comedian—who suffered traumatic physical and brain injuries—may never be the same again. But last night, Tracy proved he was still very much Tracy.
“When I finally regained consciousness, I was just ecstatic to learn that I wasn’t the one who messed up,” he joked. “Only recently I’ve started to feel like myself again, which means a whole lot of y’all women gonna get pregnant at the after party.”
