When Zayn Malik quit One Direction earlier this year, it was under the pretense that what he wanted most was to live as normally as possible. A normal life for Zayn apparently includes embarking on a solo career under the guiding hand of Iggy Azalea‘s manager.

According to Billboard, Zayn has signed a deal with Turn First Artists and will be managed by Sarah Stennett, who helped catapult Iggy Azalea’s career. Stennett started the London-based company back in 2011 with help from Lucian Grainge, the CEO and chairman of Universal Music Group. The company also boasts Ellie Goulding and Rita Ora as part of its artist roster.

News of the deal follows Zayn’s recent public falling out with producer Naughty Boy. And while there are no concrete details as to why the two former friends are no longer on speaking terms, many speculate things came to a head after Naughty Boy allegedly uploaded a music video clip for Zayn’s cover of Rae Sremmurd’s “No Type.” Zayn effectively ended things when he tweeted Naughty Boy, “you fat joke stop pretending we’re friends no one knows you.” Yikes.

While it’s now abundantly clear that Zayn never had any real plans to exit the music world altogether, it still comes as a surprise that he’s made moves on his solo career this quickly. Of course, considering the life he’s led for the past five years or so, it’s obvious (and, we suppose, understandable) that his definition of normal differs pretty significantly from ours. And besides, we’re pretty sure Zayn still can’t drive, so what else is there for him to do but get in the studio ASAP, right?
